A look at today’s Edmonton weather  by  Environment Canada.

Saturday morning temperatures at the Edmonton Blatchford station measured 20.0 C with 18 km/h winds out of the southeast gusting to 28 km/h.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the city of Edmonton, and pretty much the entire province of Alberta.

There are two types of people: those who revel in this kind of heat and those who hide away from this kind of heat. Being a long weekend, of course, many of you are likely out and about enjoying the great outdoors while I wallow away in my basement office — but I digress. Point being, protect yourself. Enjoy yourself, but protect yourself.

Here are some tips to beat the heat:

– Consider rescheduling outdoor activities to cooler hours of the day.

– Take frequent breaks from the heat, spending time in cooled indoor spaces where possible.

– Drink plenty of water and other non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated beverages to stay hydrated.

– Check for your children or pets before you exit your vehicle. Do not leave any person or pet inside a closed vehicle, for any length of time.

That last one shouldn’t need to be explained and yet it to totally needs to be explained for some people, apparently. We’ll call them Bob. Don’t be a Bob. (Sorry to all the Bobs).
