Fueled by a day of intense humidity, severe thunderstorms crackled to life across southern Ontario Monday evening, triggering multiple tornado warnings across cottage country.

Environment Canada warned of a thunderstorm just after 8:30 p.m. local time that produced a brief tornado. The storm cell tracked near Barrie and Orillia, over Lake Simcoe and east towards Lindsay.

"We do have a tornado right across the field from me right now that is on the ground and you can actually see it beginning to spiral up," said Weather Network Storm Hunter Mark Robinson who captured the tornado live in Oro-Medonte.ย

Shortly after, a new supercell became tornado-warned just after 10 p.m. ET. Tornado warnings were reissued for places including, Orillia, Lagoon City, Washago, Fenelon Falls, Balsam Lake Park and Northern Kawartha Lakes.ย

REPEAT SET-UP FOR SEVERE WEATHER TUESDAY

The threat for severe weather returns Tuesday afternoon and evening for southern Ontario, including in some of the same areas impacted by storms Monday night. Isolated severe storms are possible, forming along lake breezes north of Erie late Tuesday afternoon and across southwestern Ontario. The next cluster of thunderstorms will push into Ontario from the U.S. Midwest later Tuesday night and into the overnight hours, producing very strong wind gusts and locally heavy downpours for areas east of Lake Huron/Georgian Bay and Simcoe regions, extending into parts of cottage country as well.
