Long weekend in Ontario kicks off with pleasant conditions, but rain is coming

The August long weekend will start off with fair skies and comfortable temperatures in southern Ontario, but unsettled weather will move in for the second half of it. Rain, possible thunderstorms will trek in overnight Saturday and continuing Sunday. We will be keep a close eye on the potential for severe storms on Sunday. The unsettled weather will stick around on Monday, as well. Temperatures will remain seasonal through Monday, but the heat will return for next weekend. Details and timing, below.

FRIDAY: MAINLY FAIR, SLIM CHANCE OF PASSING SHOWER

While Friday will be mostly dry and fair across southern Ontario, there is a slim chance of a passing shower through the region in the afternoon. If any do pop up, they arise from lake breeze convergence. The risk is low and most areas won't see a drop of rain during the day.

In fact, it should be a mostly pleasant day, with seasonal temperatures again and reasonable humidex values.

LONG WEEKEND: DRY, PLEASANT START, BUT STORMY FINISH

Most of Saturday will be dry and will definitely be the best day for the long weekend in southern Ontario, should you have any outdoor plans in the daytime. Partly cloudy skies and seasonal temperatures in the upper-20s are expected in much of southern Ontario, making for a pleasant day.

However, conditions will change overnight Saturday with a low moving in, bringing rain and possible thunderstorms. The unsettled weather will continue through Sunday, with a risk for severe thunderstorms in southern Ontario in the afternoon.

Monday will have a similar unsettled pattern due to a lingering trough, which will bring scattered showers and possible thunderstorms in the afternoon hours. Seasonal temperatures will continue.

Beyond, temperatures may dip below a few degrees below seasonal by Tuesday as the front is expected to usher in slightly cooler air. Daytime highs will be in the low- to mid-20s. However, the heat will return next weekend.
