Tuesday was the warmest Oct. 24 on record for Montreal.

The temperature hit 23.8 C at noon, beating the previous record – 22.8 C – set in 1963, Environment Canada said. That more than doubled average high for Oct. 24, which is 11 C.

However, the mercury fell precipitously. By 4 p.m., it was 16 C, with showers in the forecast until 2 a.m. Wednesday.

The rest of the week will bring a mixed bag of weather to Montreal – sun, cloud, showers and rain – and the temperature is not expected to exceed 16 C.
