Spoiler alert: The biggest wings in the business

Read Cars Logo By John Tallodi of Read Cars | Slide 1 of 17: The spoiler or rear wing as it is sometimes referred to is a popular feature on cars with or without sporting aspirations. There is a difference between these two terms though, a spoiler is designed to reduce lift while a rear wing also adds downforce. The number of instances where you would benefit from either device on the road is debatable and there are plenty of very fast cars out there that do not need a huge rear wing to keep them planted on the road.Supercars like the iconic McLaren F1 make do with a small electronic rear flap instead of a huge contraption stuck to its boot but then again, the design team did not have to alter an existing model and it did make use of a downforce fan.In fact, the LM versions did have a big fixed rear wing so clearly more downforce was needed for track work. Nevertheless, one thing is for certain, spoilers and wings look pretty darn cool. They can add an aggressive stance to an otherwise innocuous design and some cars would just look wrong without one.We have picked some of the most memorable wings and spoilers that have found their way onto the back of production cars and left the most extreme examples till the very end. Of course.
