A driver has been left furious over a "ridiculous" £70 parking fine given to him after his permit was hidden by snow on his car's windscreen.

Ollie Claxton said he couldn't help but laugh when the notice arrived in the post and he realised why he was fined.

Had the Derby City Council parking warden cleared the snow they would have seen the permit, he added.

Mr Claxton, a BBC radio presenter, told the Derby Telegraph that he is fighting the fine and hopes to have it thrown out.

The council said it is looking into the challenge and will respond "soon".

Mr Claxton, of Chester Green, Derby, said: “When I just found out, I laughed. It’s ridiculous really.

“When I found out that I got a letter regarding a parking fine, I went to the council’s website to see why they had fined me.

“I saw the picture and immediately realised what had happened. If they just got rid of the snow, they could have seen the permit.

“I’ve decided to dispute the claim but I can understand why they have done it. Parking around Chester Green and that area specifically can be bad and I can see why parking wardens are making sure cars that park there are supposed to be there.”

A Derby City Council spokesperson said: “We’re not able to comment on individual cases but we are looking into the challenge and will be responding to the individual directly soon.”
