Boxing legend George Foreman and his family escaped without injury after his garage went up in flames on Sunday night, destroying up to 40 of his luxury cars, according to reports.

The cause of the fire at his mansion in Huffman, Texas is still unknown but the two time heavyweight world champion tweeted to reassure fans he's OK.

The tweet read: 'Don’t worry all is well, Dogs are barking and I don’t mean my feet.

'Thanks to all the fire fighters. Huffman, Houston New caney. Atascosita. Al them guy and women.'

The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office said that the fire was contained in the garage that is connected to the 70-year-old's home where he lives with his fifth wife Mary Joan Martelly.

Firefighters used fans to vent the heavy smoke out of Foreman’s garage and home, KHOU-TV reported.

It was not immediately clear how badly the cars were damaged.

The boxing Hall Of Famer is known to have an extensive classic car collection numbering 50 plus, with Ferraris - including a Ferrari F40 worth around $560,000 - Corvettes and a Rolls-Royce.

The damage to the ultra-rare collection could be in the tens of millions of dollars.

Foreman is known to have an iconic Ford GT original, which has sold at auction for more than $1million.

The former boxer told TV presenter Graham Besinger in 2013: 'Ive always loved cars, even now I have a collection.'

He added that the one car he wouldn't sell is his 1977 Volkswagen Beetle convertible. It is unknown whether it survived the blaze.

Foreman also admitted that he's not even sure how many cars he has and had taken to hiding some from his wife. His net worth is believed to be in the region of $300,000,000.

One of Foreman's daughters, Freeda, a former pro boxer herself, died last month in a suicide.

The 42-year-old hanged herself in her Houston area home.
