2019 BMW 3 Series prototype testingThe new BMW 3 Series will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show this October – but BMW has given us a first look at the car during final testing at the Nürburgring circuit. It’s not yet ready to fully reveal the seventh-generation 3 Series – hence the camouflage – but these images do give plenty of hints about how the new baby brother to the latest, highly-acclaimed 5 Series will look. Typically for BMW, it’s actually more interested in telling us how much better the new car will drive compared to today’s model – and all the tech that’s gone into (hopefully) restoring its place as the ultimate compact-exec driving machine.

The Jaguar XJ50 is a £74,280 special edition of the Coventry firm’s famous luxury saloon that has been launched to help mark 50 years of the long-running line.
It’s been upgraded outside and in with anniversary detailing, and is available to order now.
Offered with a range of engines across global markets, it’s fitted with a 300hp 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel in the UK, and is available either in regular or long-wheelbase guise.
Outside, changes include the addition of Autobiography-spec front and rear bumpers, 20-inch ‘Venom’ wheels and a black front grille. There’s anniversary badges on the rear and side wing vents, and a choice of colours including white, black, blue and red.
More XJ50 logos feature inside. They’re embossed on the head rests and centre arm rests, Jaguar’s fitted illuminated XJ50 kickplates and an XJ50 badge in the centre of the dash. Also standard are soft-grain diamond-quilted leather seats and anodised gearshift pedals.

Jaguar XJ 1968 to 2018
“Spanning half a century, the Jaguar XJ remains true to its heritage with a wonderful balance of beautiful design, intelligent performance and indulgent luxury that ensures it stands out from the crowd,” said Jaguar design director Ian Callum, the man who created the current XJ.
“This is a car worth celebrating and the XJ50 pays homage to a giant within the Jaguar brand that we believe is one of the world’s most stylish sporting saloons.”

Jaguar XJ 1968 to 2018
Jaguar has released two special films to show the evolution of the XJ from 1968 to 2018. It also notes the celebrity links for the car – from chauffeuring royalty, politicians and business leaders, to featuring in films such as Love Actually and The Long Good Friday.
Also don’t forget, the XJ is another car that’s had a starring role in the Bond franchise. Well, it’s just a little more authentic than a BMW 7 Series, no?
