There's barely any point trying to disguise this car. We all know it's the new 2019 model year Corvette ZR1. And that rear wing poses some unusual problems for Chevy's prototype disguising department... it's huge!

The aero addenda mark this out as the swansong for the C7-era Corvette family. And with future 'Vettes looking like switching to a mid-engined layout, this is one of the last fast front-engined coupes, we reckon.

Corvette ZR1: the lowdown

As well as that monstrous rear wing - more likely to be seen on a GT3 racer - we can now make out more details of the rest of the go-faster ZR1 package.

There's a new bonnet, with bulges (and possibly venting) to accommodate the engine mods underneath, and the face of the fastest Corvette yet is peppered with extra air intakes to feed oxygen to the motor.

How fast is the new 2019 Corvette ZR1?

No word yet on actual performance figures, but it's telling they're lapping the Nurburgring, which was covered in a light dusting of snow this week. The exact engine is unknown, but the rumour mill points to 700+ horsepower; even 750bhp could be on the cards.

While some reports say the ZR1 will have a version of the 6.2-litre supercharged V8, others suggest a twin-turbo V8 dubbed LT5 could be used. The existing Tremec seven-speed transaxle will continue, we understand.

A price tag in excess of $100,000 is expected.

We should point out that spoilers and wings are two different devices. A spoiler is designed to reduce lift and improve aerodynamics, while a wing serves to increase downforce. A nutshell guide in the extreme, but it provides a little background. Read on to discover what has made our shortlist. Spoiler alert: cars with the wildest rear wings
