Rickshaw Challenge 2019 route: where Children In Need fundraiser is visiting – and the dates to watch

The charity event, The Rickshaw Challenge, returns once again with a new route, a new team, and a newly modified rickshaw.

A team of six young people and The One Show’s Matt Baker will take on an eight day challenge to cycle 400 miles across the UK as part of BBC's Children in Need this year.

The route for this year's challenge runs from Holyhead to London, starting on Friday 8 November and ending in the capital on Friday 15 November.

This year’s route will see the team ride to Flash, the highest village in the UK, and tackle the steepest street in the world in Harlech, Wales.

Viewers will be able to track them here once the challenge starts.

The riders this year are six teenagers from across the UK: Adelle, Emma, Josh, Kelsey, Thomas and Uche.

When will it be on TV?

The day's progress will be updated on The One Show on BBC One at 7pm throughout the challenge.

What's the history of the Rickshaw Challenge?

2011

In 2011, the first The One Show Rickshaw Challenge saw presenter Matt Baker cycle a rickshaw from Edinburgh to London in eight days, raising over a million pounds.

Since then, groups of young people previously supported by BBC Children in Need have taken on the challenge.

2012

Ciaran, Darren, Jack, James, Jamila and Lauren cycled from Llandudno to London.

2013

Bethany, Daniel, Eleanor, Martin and Peter cycled from Giant’s Causeway to BBC Elstree Studios in London, riding "around the clock" for the first time, taking it in turns to do a night shift.

2014

Alex, Carolina, Flo, Jess, John and Matthew cycled from "Salford to Walford", finishing live at the iconic Eastenders set during the BBC Children in Need Appeal show.

2015

Lucy, George G, George D, Erin, Elliot and Amira cycled from "Lands End to the East End", finishing at the BBC Elstree Studios again.

2016

Andy, Ebony, Olivia, Phoebe, Ross and Salar cycled from Jedburgh in Scotland to central London.

2017

Ben, Greg, Liv, Luke, Sabah and Shona cycled from The One Show studios in London to Glasgow.

2018

Abbe, Harry, Kayla, Kieran, Maisie and Phoebe cycled from Calais, through the service tunnel of the Channel Tunnel to Salford Quays. McLaren provided a new and improved Rickshaw for the team.
