Held at the huge Birmingham National Exhibition Centre, there were five halls crammed with car club stands, cars for sale, an auction, live stages and automotive paraphernalia.

Silverstone Auctions NEC Classic Motor Show Sale 2017: Forget finding a lost Rembrandt in your attic or an oilfield in your back garden, because your passport to riches is discovering a retro or classic Ford in your garage. We’ve grown accustomed to seeing fast Fords fetching serious money, but that didn’t stop our jaws from hitting the floor at the Silverstone Auctions NEC Classic Motor Show Sale 2017. Here’s a round-up of the blue oval headline acts, along with a few other show-stoppers. Fast Fords star at the NEC Classic Motor Show auction

Spending just a few hours at the event makes you realise just how appreciated classic cars still are in the UK - with over 71,000 people attending over the course of the three days.

Our highlights include the appropriately named Azzurro Dino (blue) Ferrari Dino and an immaculate Porsche 356 - the car that inspired the Porsche 911 – as well as a stunning Mercedes 300SL Gullwing.

Despite it being a classic motor show, we couldn't help but notice some of the newer metal on show. A new-shape BMW M5 as well as a Miami Blue Porsche 911 GT3 RS grabbed our attention in particular, and there was even a Land Rover Defender SVX from the latest James Bond film Spectre on show.

We also got to watch a fantastic Silverstone Auctions on the Sunday. Highlights included an original Only and Fools and Horses van that sold for £41,625 as well as a host of ultra-low mileage Fords that sold for crazy amounts.

TV hosts Mike Brewer and Ant Anstead also appeared on the live stage ahead of the new series of Wheeler Dealer, which airs on January 1 on the Discovery Channel.

Yet, despite all the expensive metal on display, it was actually a humble second-generation Volkswagen Golf GTI that won the coveted 'car of the show' in the 'Pride of Ownership' competition.

The NEC Classic Motor Show is definitely one for classic enthusiasts not to miss. The dates have already been announced for next year's event, which will take place between November 9 and 11.
