As disguises go, it’s fair to say the Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder’s is slender.

Never a subtle car, the Huracan Spyder’s orange paint job manages to draw as much attention than the zebra-print camouflage, which itself only serves to highlight the fact this is a new model.

We drove the coupe Huracan Performante recently, and found the performance pack made the supercar even sharper and more pliable when pushed close to its limits on track.

The Spyder should pull off a similar trick when built to Performante specification. This extreme (and likely to be extremely popular in supercar circles) package adds a new wing and more aggressive styling, as well as plenty of cutting-edge, carbon-fibre-based materials; these, in turn, reduce weight.

As well as losing weight, the Performante gains an extra 29bhp over the next most powerful model in the range, the Huracan LP 610-4. Lamborghini’s 5.2-litre V10 is officially rated at 631bhp when the coupe is ordered in Performante guise, and we can only image the convertible Spyder Performante will up its power to a similar extent.

Under the skin, expect increased stiffness over the ‘standard’ 602bhp Huracan LP 610-4, as well as sharper steering for increased sharpness when cornering.

That vast rear wing is aerodynamically helpful as well as suitably dramatic, though the Spyder will always be battling against its folding fabric hood, which inevitably generates more wind resistance than a smoother, better-profiled fixed affair.

No official word on pricing, but as the Performante model adds roughly £26,000 to the price of a Huracan LP 610-4 coupe, expect the new Huracan Performante Spyder to come in at a cool £225,000.
