F1: Lewis Hamilton reflects on disbelief of losing 2021 title

Lewis Hamilton has claimed losing the 2021 Formula 1 title in the way he did was one of the toughest moments of his life. Hamilton was on course to win a record eight world title with just a few laps to go in the final race of the F1 season in Abu Dhabi. A late safety car made it seem like Hamilton was destined to win the race and title with his rival Max Verstappen in second place. However, that was until race director Michael Masi made an unprecedented decision to allow one more lap of racing. "I was like, there’s no way they’re going to cheat me out of this. There’s no way. That won’t happen. Surely not," Lewis Hamilton. The decision gave Max Verstappen the chance he needed to pass Hamilton on the final lap and win his first title. After the race, Hamilton says he struggled to find the strength to climb out of his cockpit. "I knew what had happened. I knew what decisions had been made and why. Yes, I knew that something wasn’t right," Lewis Hamilton.
