Italian Invasion: Several New Maseratis, Alfa Romeos Planned Through 2018

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has just revealed its plans for the next five years, and it's going to be a full-on Italian invasion. We'll be seeing a more complete Maserati lineup, while Alfa Romeo is slated to add six new models. That's not all, though. Fiat also has a couple things to report, and although it's not quite Italian, Ram has some minor surprises in store as well.

Maserati was never in the headlines quite this much, but that's because it didn't have a product offensive like this before. We just got the Ghibli, but also we'll be getting the Levante luxury SUV in 2015. Though it will be based on the mechanical components of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Maserati has always affirmed that the Levante will use a bespoke, Ferrari-derived engine -- likely a V-8, and a chart reveals such an engine will make more than 560 horses. The stunningly sexy Alfieri coupe will come after that in 2016, and for those who like feeling the wind through their hair, the drop-top Alfieri Cabrio is scheduled for 2017. While the GranTurismo hasn't undergone too many changes for quite some time now, that will all change in 2018 when we'll be seeing an all-new one. Meanwhile, Alfa Romeo has ambitious plans to sell 400,000 cars globally by 2018. By then it will have no fewer than eight new models, with the first arriving in the fourth quarter of 2015.The arrival of a bunch of new vehicles won't begin until 2016 when Alfa adds two new compacts, another mid-size car, one full-size vehicle, two utility vehicles, and one specialty vehicle through 2018. Previous rumors suggest that Alfa Romeo’s midsize SUV would be based on the Jeep Cherokee’s platform, while a full-sized SUV would ride on the Maserati Levante and Jeep Grand Cherokee’s underpinnings; Both would be built at the Mirafiori factory. Fiat was a bit vague about its timeline, however, since the 500X shares its underpinnings with the Jeep Renegade, it's possible we'll be seeing the 500X around the same time. A specialty vehicle is also in the pipeline, though we're uncertain as to what that may be. As for Ram, its light duty trucks will undergo a major update in 2017, right before the heavy duty truck's major update in 2018. Until then, expect minor updates in the next year or so.
