“To begin, I would never want my posts or platform to be used for hate against anyone, especially those of my own beautiful & powerful heritage,” Hadid wrote Monday in a post to her Instagram story. “I love and care so much about the Muslim and Arab side of my family, as well as my brothers and sisters throughout the world.”

Last month, Hadid was involved in another controversy when she appeared in an ad for Calvin Klein that showed her kissing a female robot.

Calvin Klein apologized for the ad, which garnered backlash since Hadid identifies as heterosexual.
