Coronation Street's Kym Marsh has opened up about the "emotional" experience of attending soap legend Liz Dawn's funeral last week.

Fans and soap stars lined the streets of Manchester on Friday (October 6) as the Vera Duckworth actress was laid to rest at Salford Cathedral in an emotional remembrance ceremony.

Among those in attendance was Kym Marsh, who worked with Liz Dawn during her earliest years on Corrie and previously called her "a thoroughly lovely lady".

"Liz Dawn's funeral was a very emotional day," she wrote in her weekly OK! Magazine column. "Liz was such a legend, so as a mark of respect Coronation Street production shut down for the afternoon last Friday so the cast could go.

"It was lovely of her family to invite us all; they knew there were a lot of people at work who loved her. Many of us attended, including Samia Longchambon with her husband Sylvain, Antony Cotton and Alison King. Samia and Alan Halsall both said a few words at the funeral, which were very touching.

"Liz's son Graham also said some lovely things about his mum. There's a huge amount of love for Liz at Corrie and I was glad to be able to go along to pay my respects."

A Coronation Street spokesperson sadly announced last month that Dawn had passed away at age 77 following a battle with lung condition emphysema.
