Coronation Street's Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) has been subject to a disturbing stalking storyline in the past few weeks.

However, Kym has revealed that she has experienced something similarly worrying in her own life, which is echoed in the soap storyline.

"I've had a few people make fake accounts of me on social media sites," she told This Morning. "The strange thing for me was that I had some flowers delivered to me at home saying, 'Sorry you couldn't make our date'. It was all a bit weird.

"When we delved into it, we found someone was pretending to me be for the past 10 years, having conversations with this guy as if they were having some sort of relationship. So it's just really strange."

Kym added: "They've made accounts of my children and more recently my 6-year-old – which is the most disturbing thing."

The challenge of doing the storyline is something that she has enjoyed, the star explaining: "It's been great. I've been given some great opportunities.

"This is my best 12 months on Coronation Street. Michelle has no clue (who her stalker is). He's now dating Maria. Imagine how shocked she's going to be."

Michelle's stalker was revealed to be former flame Will Chatterton, and her latest plan has seen her announce that she's split up with boyfriend Robert Preston. However, it is all a plan to outsmart Will.

Coronation Street airs on ITV.
