The Australian actor was scheduled for a press junket and premiere screening of indie action thriller, Killerman in Los Angeles next week, but has been too 'rocked' by the breakup to attend, sources said.

The Hunger Games star had told executives back in May that he was 'on board to get the movie going' as he felt this performance was his best in recent years.

Insiders told DailyMail.com movie bosses had even planned for a 'real Hollywood affair' that would involve Miley joining Liam on the blue carpet premiere as well as A-list friends and family.

But in the last six weeks, Liam, 29, reportedly went 'MIA' as he battled to save his ten-month marriage to the pop star.

Friends of the actor, who has been holed up in Byron Bay, Australia since the split, revealed he can't face heading back to his Los Angeles home with Miley just yet.

The 26-year-old, meanwhile, was spotted with Brody Jenner's ex Kaitlynn Carter in LA, days after the two were photographed kissing in Lake Como, Italy.

'He is not coming to LA for Killerman anymore even though he had told the film executives that he loved the movie and wanted to go full force into promoting it,' the insider said.

'There was a feeling that the premiere was going to be a major summer event with Miley joining her husband. All the signs and talk from his team was that Miley and he wanted to put on a public show of support.

'There was even a plan for Liam to appear on the late night talk shows to promote the film.'

Instead, the star had been focusing on his personal life than promoting his film, the source added.

'Liam has just been off the grid and Killerman was put on the back burner as he has fought to save his marriage.

'He is deeply upset that things did not work out and stunned at seeing how quickly Miley appears to moved on.

'Liam is just surrounding himself with close family to try and heal and see what Miley does next. They want him to stay at home and heal.'

'Even the thought of jetting back to LA is painful for him. The couple has a Malibu home, which Miley has returned to with Kaitlynn.

'Unless something major happens to calm down the tensions between the pair, it will be a while before he sees her in the flesh. It is a tough premise to deal with his emotions should he meet Miley again face to face.'

In a statement to DailyMail.com, a spokesman for film studio Blue Fox: 'While we obviously hoped Liam would be available to travel from Australia to LA to do some press and promo for the film, his availability was never confirmed and therefore, no junket or premiere was ever officially planned. Any story saying Liam canceled press is inaccurate.'

'In fact Miley was boasting that Liam's performances were incredible and this film would show Hollywood how he is so much more than a pretty face. He took the role because it showed his acting chops and a real grittier side to his screen talent.

'At the time no-one suspected anything would go wrong with their relationship.

'Now Liam is just lost on what his next steps will be. The timing of this split could not have been worse, which has annoyed him and his team.

'He should have been out in public talking about his work instead of hiding away because of his raw emotions.'

In the last week, camps for Cyrus and Hemsworth  pumped out their versions over what sank the seven-month marriage.

His pals responded 'bulls***' to claims that his alleged hard partying was to blame, insisting her 'infidelity' with Carter, 30, was the last nail in the coffin.

Cyrus' allies claimed: 'Liam parties with his friends, and Miley thinks he should've grown out of that by now she's been supportive of him when things get dark, but it's tough.'

Hemsworth has received strong reviews for his work on Killerman.

It centers on his character NYC money launderer Moe Diamond , who wakes up from a car crash, with no memory but millions in stolen cash, and an insane crew of dirty cops hunting him down.

The fast-paced action film sees Liam then try to unravel his mind while escaping cops with his supposed best friend and a fiancee he doesn't remember.

The source added: 'This movie was about Liam taking a step away from his romantic comedy image. It has the type of gritty look that Robert Pattinson achieved in Good Times and a performance to match. This split could not have come at a worse time for Liam getting his name out there as a multi dimensional star.'

The film, directed by Malik Bader, will be released on August 30.
