Liam Payne has out Liam Payne-d himself by throwing his hat into the ring to play James Bond.

The Strip That Down singer, 25, is keen to follow in the footsteps of his former One Direction bandmate Harry Styles and try his hand at acting by taking on the iconic British spy.

Asked which role he would love to play, he told The Sun: “I mean James Bond straight off let’s be honest.

Not satisfied to stop at one franchise, he also voiced his dream to feature in the Marvel universe.

“I love super hero films so I’d love to be in a Marvel movie,” he said. “I’ve always wanted to be super hero since I was a kid and the only way to really do that is to get in the Marvel ranks or the DC ranks.”

Payne was mocked online with one Twitter user calling it the “hilarious report of the decade”.

A third branded him a “joker”, tweeting: “Did I really just see on @GMB that this Liam Payne has ambition to be the next James Bond? #Joker (sic).”

Payne currently has no odds on taking over from Daniel Craig.

The British actor will enjoy a fifth and final outing as the 007 agent before he hands over the reins, with Tom Hiddleston the favourite to replace him.

The Loki star, who famously dated Taylor Swift, has had his odds slashed to 8/15, according to Betfair.

Tom Hardy is the second favourite, placed at 4/1, while Idris Elba has odds of 9/2.
