Faryal Makhdoom has made a desperate bid to save her marriage to Amir Khan - with a heartfelt Twitter apology.

Earlier this month it emerged he'd had sex with a beauty therapist after telling the world he was getting a divorce.

But the expectant mum of one - who announced her pregnancy after Amir tweeted that they were splitting - has now shared a lengthy apology with fans.

And despite Amir's plans for divorce, Faryal wants to "start afresh" to stop her children from growing up in a "broken home".

"The past three months have been really tough on me and my marriage," she wrote.

"Matters haven't been helped by the fact that my husband has been out of the ring for quite some time... it's been very stressful for us as a couple, and a family.

"I now recognise that all this infighting between me and my in-laws has had a terrible effect on my husband and I... and for that I would like to sincerely apologise.

"My mother and father-in-law are the elders of our family and as such deserve love and respect just as much as my own parents do.

"I've said things in the past out of anger... I didn't really mean and regret now."

And she is hoping to put their troubles behind them for the sake of their children.

"My daughter and unborn child do not deserve a broken home," she said.

"That is why I have decided that it is time to put our differences behind us, and start afresh.

"All families go through hard times. It is unfortunate for us that our difficulties were played out so publicly. I also apologise for my part in that."

Mirror Online has contacted Amir's representative for comment.

Faryal was left devastated when Amir went on a Twitter meltdown accusing her of cheating on him with rival boxer Anthony Joshua - something both he and Faryal quickly refuted.

He was then spotted partying in Dubai with a stunning woman just days after his Twitter rant, in which he said he was seeking a divorce - but the woman, Gulbahor Becknazar, said they were just friends.

It then emerged that Amir had bedded beauty therapist Emily Volkova in the days after his divorce announcement - then branded her a "daft white s**t" and "dirt bag" in nasty WhatsApp messages after they'd done the deed.

Emily, 21, who has more than a passing resemblance to Faryal, cradled the former world welterweight in her arms as they spoke for hours about his marriage breakdown.

But she was dumped after a passionate night at an airport hotel while the fighter waited for a flight to watch the Mayweather-McGregor world title battle in Las Vegas.

"He was just after one thing. Maybe I got carried away when he said I was the kind of girl he would like to take home with him," Emily told the Sunday People.

"But the abuse he gave me when he made it clear the one night we spent together was all it was showed him up for the horrible piece of work he is.

"Calling me a 'daft white s**t' and 'dirt bag' was really uncalled for. I would never have spoken about him if he hadn't turned that nasty."

Meanwhile, a friend of pregnant Faryal told Mirror Online that the businesswoman was trying to put the stress of the last few weeks behind her as she focuses on toddler daughter Lamaisah and her unborn child.

"It's early days in the pregnancy and it's been a stressful and an emotional time for Faryal," said the pal.

"She needs to prioritise her health and the health of the baby, and that's what she's focusing on."
