Jurassic World: Dominion will not mark the end of the beloved franchise.

Producer Frank Marshall has instead confirmed that Jurassic World: Dominion will mark a new beginning for the series, especially since dinosaurs are now living alongside humans.

Marshall admitted as much during a recent interview with Collider. At first he insisted that Dominion was never planned as the finale to the franchise, before then quickly adding, “It’s the start of a new era.”

“The dinosaurs are now on the mainland amongst us, and they will be for quite some time, I hope.”

Released 14 years after Jurassic Park III, but only serving as a direct sequel to Jurassic Park, 2015’s Jurassic World proved to be a huge hit for Universal. It went on to gross £1.37 billion ($1.670 billion) at the worldwide box office, making it the highest grossing film ever for the studio.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom didn’t manage to match those numbers, but its return of £1.08 billion ($1.309 billion) was still mightily impressive, and also proved that there’s a lot of interest in the series.

Anticipation is particularly high for Jurassic World: Dominion as it will pair current stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard with original cast members Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum.

Joe Mazello, who played youngster Tim Murphy in the original film, has even admitted that he might return, while during a past interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Pratt perfectly teased the film by declaring, “It’s got everybody. It’s got pretty much everybody in it.”

Unfortunately production on the blockbuster has been delayed because of the COVID-19 crisis, although Universal is still yet to push back Jurassic World: Dominion’s release date of June 11, 2021.
