Keira Knightley is set to make a surprise return in the new Pirates of the Caribbean film after a decade away from the franchise.

The British actress, 32, appears in the brand new trailer for Salazar’s Revenge, reprising her original role as Elizabeth Swann.

While the extent of her involvement in the new film is still unknown, Knightley makes a fleeting appearance in a Japanese trailer for the film.

The new addition to the cast comes after it was announced that Orlando Bloom would also be returning to the role of Will Turner for the fifth instalment.

Knightley last appeared on screen in a Pirates film back in 2007, hanging up her hat at the end of the third film, At World’s End.

Johnny Depp will also reprise his role as the iconic Captain Jack Sparrow , while new cast members include Kaya Scodelario and newcomer Brenton Thwaites.

Javier Bardem plays the titular villain Salazar, an old enemy of Captain Jack, who is racing to capture Poseiden’s trident before anyone else does.

Sir Paul McCartney was recently reported to be making a cameo in the new film, with an extra scene added to the shooting schedule last year to include him.

Rolling Stone Keith Richards famously played Captain Jack’s father in 2007’s At World’s End.

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 is slated for UK release on May 26.
