The animated Spice Girls movie teased earlier this year is now definitely happening.

Paramount has confirmed that it will feature the voices of all five members – yes, including Posh Spice/Victoria Beckham who isn't doing the reunion tour – and the plot will see them become superheroes. Watch your backs, Marvel and DC.

The group's manager Simon Fuller is producing, while Legally Blonde's Karen McCullah and Kiwi Smith are writing the script. There's no director attached just yet.

The movie will be released at some point next year.

Original (January 12, 2019): The manager of The Spice Girls, Simon Fuller, has confirmed that the iconic pop group will be starring in an upcoming animated movie.

The band – which now includes all of the original members bar Victoria Beckham/Posh Spice – will be heading out on a UK comeback tour later this year, but it looks like they'll also be appearing on our screens in the not-so-distant future.

Discussing with Billboard the band's future plans, Simon mentioned: "What's coming next is that we are going to be doing lots of exciting things. We'll be making an animated movie and there's lots of exciting plans to come."

He also admitted that he "expected" the sell-out success of The Spice Girls comeback tour, adding: "To be honest with you, while it was clearly phenomenal, they are such an awesome phenomenon I expected it.

"The last tour we did seven or eight years ago the demand was equal, if not maybe even more.

"It's a global phenomenon. They're more timely now than ever and it's fantastic. I'm so happy for the girls. They deserve it."

Emma Bunton/Baby Spice has previously teased an animation project featuring the girls, which would include their likeliness in a superhero narrative where they all had special powers.

"It's something that we're talking about," she revealed. "The opportunities we get given, it's amazing. There is so much excitement, it's just about making sure it's the right thing."
