He left millions swooning with his portrayal as the 'hot priest' in comedy series Fleabag.

And Andrew Scott could be set to take on an altogether different role as he's reportedly been approached to play former Prime Minister Tony Blair in Netflix series The Crown.

According to reports, the actor, 44, is the perfect age to play the politician, who was 43 when he came into power in 1997.

It is said that Andrew is in talks with the show's producers to portray the former Labour leader in the final series of the hit TV show, which will cover Tony's disaccord with The Queen over her handling of Princess Diana's death.

However, Andrew's agent told MailOnline: 'Andrew is “unavailable” for the current filming dates so he would have to shuffle his schedules to make The Crown role work.

A source told The Sun: 'This role is one of the most anticipated castings on The Crown.

'The final series covers the Prime Minister’s epic clash with the Queen over her response to the death of Diana in 1997.

'So the creators wanted an adaptable actor like Andrew who has proved he can master the charm and intimidating presence that typified Blair.'

MailOnline have contacted representatives of Andrew for comment.

Irish star Andrew received recognition for his role playing Jim Moriarty in BBC series Sherlock, a part which earned him a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor.

Lesley Manville, 64, is set to star as Princess Margaret, who was played by Helena Bonham Carter previously. Jonathan Pryce, 73, will take over the role of Prince Philip.

Filming on series 5 will involve following strict Covid rules, however the UK is hoping to ease restrictions throughout the summer with some measures already changing.

The final two series of The Crown will cover the Royal Family's history throughout the 1990s and into 2003, however it is not yet know which moments will be seen.

There are several poignant moments which could be used, including the Queen making a speech on her 40th anniversary of her accession in 1992, in which she called the year an 'annus horriblis'.

She was referring to the breakdown of three of her children's marriages; Prince Andrew, Princess Anne's and Prince Charles' divorce from Princess Diana.

Other notable events during the time period included a fire at Windsor Castle, her golden wedding anniversary in 1997, and the deaths of Princess Margaret, the Queen Mother and the Princess of Wales.
