But those fateful events came very close to never happening.

As her husband returns to the ice on ITV's all-new revival of Dancing on Ice, the actress is looking back on the surprising turn of events that introduced her to Sylvain and subsequently changed her life.

"If we hadn't been skating partners I'd never have met Sylvain – it was life-changing," she told OK! Magazine. "Weirdly, it's the one reality show I always said I wouldn't do because it was so dangerous, but I'm very happy that I did do it now."

"I'm excited for him," she said. "Skating is Sylvain's passion and it's what he was trained to do for his whole life. I love watching him skate. I feel so proud watching him do something he's really good at."

Sylvain added: "When they told me I was going to be based in Manchester, I was really happy. Probably not as happy as Sam. We were both dreading me being based in London or some place far from home."

Sylvain and Stephanie Waring narrowly avoided the first skate-off in Sunday's Dancing on Ice premiere, with Candice Brown and Matt Evers landing in the hot seat instead.
