Dane DeHaan has revealed that the stars aligned for his latest film, Life After Beth.

The Kill Your Darlings actor stars opposite John C Reilly and Aubrey Plaza in the "zany" zombie comedy, which was written and directed by Aubrey's boyfriend Jeff Baena.

"It's just so zany and original and fun. It's my first comedy so that was a big draw," he said.

"And then some of my favourite comedians are in the movie so it was just a one-of-a-kind opportunity I couldn't pass up."

Dane joked that Life After Beth is nothing like John Krokidas' dark drama Kill Your Darlings, in which he played Beat writer Lucien Carr alongside Daniel Radcliffe as Allen Ginsberg.

"This is a lot different than Kill Your Darlings, I can guarantee you that. It's almost like the polar opposite movie," he quipped.

Aubrey heaped praise on her screen dad John, saying: "John is the most ridiculous dad you could ask for. He's so weird and funny and I love him."

The 29-year-old funnywoman, who plays a girl who is turned into a zombie in the movie, admitted she used her past experiences for her 'zombie' moments. She said: "I just think of all the horrible things that have happened to me as a child and then I physicalise them in my body."

John joked that Jeff had "to be nice" on set because he was working with his girlfriend.

He added: "It's a really funny movie, with all this crazy, supernatural stuff happening. Whether someone was becoming a zombie or watching someone become a zombie, I loved how there's a real emotional truth to what was going on, which just makes it funnier to me."
