Colin Firth is set to star in thriller Eye In The Sky.

The Oscar-winning King's Speech actor has signed up for the upcoming movie, which focuses on the shadowy world of remotely piloted "drone" warfare, reported Screen Daily.

"The use of unmanned aircraft in modern warfare and in the so-called 'war on terror' poses critical questions for us all," he said.

Colin will also be a producer on Eye In The Sky with his Raindog Films company.

"Raindog was launched with the hope of making challenging thoughtful films, and I'm pleased to be a part of an exploration into such a crucial issue," he added.

Ender's Game and X-Men Origins: Wolverine director Gavin Hood will take the reins on the film, which follows a military intelligence officer after she is charged with remotely commanding a top secret drone operation to capture a group of terrorists from their Kenyan safe house.

Production is expected to begin in South Africa on August 11.

Colin, last seen in war drama The Railway Man with Nicole Kidman, will next star in Atom Egoyan's crime drama Devil's Knot alongside Reese Witherspoon, Matthew Vaughn's The Secret Service and Woody Allen's Magic In The Moonlight.

The 53-year-old will also be the voice of Paddington Bear in the upcoming film, Paddington.
