Disney's Frozen has topped the animation honours at the 41st Annie Awards in the US.

The 3D film about a magically icy princess - which features the voices of Kristen Bell, Josh Gad and Idina Menzel - took home five trophies, including best animated feature.

Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee won the best directing gong at the awards, which are presented by the International Animated Film Society.

Frozen also conquered music, production design and voice acting categories, the latter for star Josh, who voices Olaf the snowman.

The box office hit was up against Despicable Me 2, A Letter To Momo, Ernest And Celestine, Monsters University, The Croods and The Wind Rises.

Live-action films also scored Annies, including Pacific Rim for animated effects and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey for character animation.

For television, Fox's Futurama won best general audience animated show.
