Mark Hamill has revealed that his appearance in Star Wars: Episode VII isn't confirmed, saying: "Nothing has been decided yet."

The 62-year-old is tipped to reprise his role as Luke Skywalker in the upcoming seventh instalment of the sci-fi film series, alongside original co-stars Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher.

He told fans during a Reddit Ask Me Anything chat: "The only character I know for sure is returning is my friend R2-D2. He hasn't stopped beeping about it.

"Haha. I'm not being coy, really. When I find something out, I'll let everybody know. But nothing has been decided yet."

Carrie has confirmed she will return as Princess Leia, and that she would like to wear her "old hairstyle again - but with white hair."

Mark said he preferred to keep things secret so the audience's enjoyment is not ruined by spoilers.

"I'm good at keeping secrets. Especially when the goal is to maximise the enjoyment of the audience," he said. "That's why I'm worried about episode 7, they're going after casting sheets! I'm trying to keep the surprises for the movie, not for the internet. I hate spoilers."

Mark did reveal that the older Luke would probably have "a beard", could be more spiritual and "live in an igloo."

He also said Harrison was shocked when he found out that Darth Vader was Luke's father.

"Harrison turned around and said, 'I didn't know that! Why the f*** didn't you tell me?!'", he said.

Star Wars: Episode VII, directed by JJ Abrams, will be released on December 18, 2015.
