Seth Rogen is set to reunite with Joseph Gordon-Levitt for a Christmas comedy, currently referred to as Xmas.

The stars will also join forces with their 50/50 director Jonathan Levine for the as-yet-untitled festive film, said The Hollywood Reporter.

The pair, who previously played best friends in the Golden Globe-nominated black comedy 50/50, will play childhood friends who reunite in New York City for their annual tradition of going out on Christmas Eve.

A third lead role - for another best mate - is still to be cast.

The film, which has been written by Jonathan, is scheduled to start shooting in the summer.

The project also reunites the 50/50 trio with producers Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane, who produced and co-financed 50/50. Seth will also co-produce Xmas with his producing partner Evan Goldberg.

Seth, who last starred in post-apocalyptic comedy This Is The End, will next be in Neighbours opposite Zac Efron and upcoming comedy The Interview with James Franco.

Joseph - next seen in the Sin City sequel, A Dame To Kill For - has been in talks to star, direct and produce the big-screen adaptation of Neil Gaiman's graphic novel series, The Sandman.
