Neighbours will be welcoming back Stuart Parker for a special guest appearance later this year.

Blair McDonough played Stuart from 2001 to 2006, who is probably best remembered for his friendship with housemates Toadie Rebecchi and Connor O'Neill.

Neighbours' executive producer Jason Herbison confirmed in an interview with TV Week that the character will be making a comeback in a future episode to reconnect with an old friend.

Stuart will return to Ramsay Street for a celebration involving one of his previous Ramsay Street cohorts, but further details are being kept under wraps for the time being.

Blair was most recently seen in fellow Aussie soap Home and Away, where he played the guest role of Alan Ellis – the father of Mason Morgan's late girlfriend Beth.

The actor – who initially rose to fame after finishing as a runner-up in the first season of Big Brother Australia – previously spoke about a possible Neighbours return back in 2012, admitting that he had pitched the idea to the producers.

"I did actually float the idea of Stu making a return to the Neighbours producers," he said. "They were too far down the path with the storyline at that point, though.

"Neighbours was my university! I didn't go to uni or get the chance to do all those crazy things as a kid, so that's what Neighbours was for me."

Neighbours returns on Monday, January 8 at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.
