Tonight's (June 6) First Dates was brutal and bizarre in equal measure, and we're not sure how to deal with it.

After another round of hopefuls made their way to the restaurant to find love, viewers couldn't help but feel mildly uncomfortable with some of the dating action in play.

And that was before one couple decided to cut their date short before the main course (!).

First up making viewers cringe was equestrian and prosecco lover Hebe, who had a rather close relationship with her mum – and by 'close', we mean close.

After revealing that her mum uses an app to check her potential boyfriends' history on, alarm bells started to ring for some of the viewers.

(And we thought our mum was overly-involved in our love life.)

Despite Hebe's slightly scary mum, Hebe and her date Charles – who doesn't know about his potential future mother-in-law, btw – hit it off and agreed to a second date. Aww!

Let's hope he passes the mum test.

In slightly less uplifting but equally shocking news, rugby player John delivered one of the most brutal put-downs we think we've ever seen in the First Dates restaurant.

After his meal with "old romantic" Greig got off to a rocky start, John returned from his smoke break to drop the last line you'd want to hear when you're on a date.

"I don't think you're attractive," John deadpanned, before the pair both agreed to cut the date short. "What's the point in staying and having a main course?" he asked.

Needless to say, viewers were firmly on Team Greig – especially as John stayed behind to finish his meal before leaving. We've never felt so awkward watching telly.

We'll take you out on a date, Greig. A whole one.

First Dates continues on Channel 4.
