After making the leap from Channel 4 to Netflix last year, Charlie Brooker's hit series Black Mirror is now making another jump to a different format with a new three-book series.

Charlie Brooker himself will act as editor for the new books, which will feature all-new stories that are sure to leave readers questioning everything they know about themselves and the world, just as the TV series has done before them.

Each of the three books currently planned will feature original stories from leading names within the literary world, who will be announced soon.

"All-new Black Mirror stories from exciting authors – that's a joyous prospect," Brooker said. "And they're appearing in a high-tech new format known as a 'book'.

"Apparently you just have to glance at some sort of 'ink code' printed on paper and images and sounds magically appear in your head, enacting the story. Sounds far-fetched to me, but we'll see."

The books are coming from Penguin Random House and Ebury Publishing, with the first volume being published in February 2018, followed by the second and third in autumn 2018 and in 2019.

Before that though, the next block of Black Mirror episodes are expected to land on Netflix later this year, with Brooker teasing that we can expect a comedy episode, a crime thriller, and an "indie drama".

"We've got some strikingly different tones and looks," he added. "We've got one that's overtly comic, much more overtly comic than anything we've done. It's got fairly mainstream comic elements, but also some really unpleasant stuff that happens."

The "bigger canvas" Netflix gave to the series also means Black Mirror's fourth season will be bringing us an episode directed by none other than Jodie Foster, which will also star Mad Men actress Rosemarie DeWitt.

Last month also saw the names of the six new episodes and their directors appeared on Reddit which you can see right here, but we wouldn't read too much into them until we hear it confirmed by someone a little more official.

You can pre-order Black Mirror: Volume 1 now. Black Mirror (the series) is expected to return later this year.
