Poor Alec Hardy, it's fair to say, isn't a natural "dater".

Broadchurch deleted scene from season 3: see how DI Hardy's Tinder date ended

The third season of ITV's Broadchurch drew to a close last night, providing a chilling solution to the central mystery of who had raped local woman Trish and carried out a string of other sex attacks.

But while the crime the show explored was a horrifying one, earlier on in the season there were several lighter moments, including a scene in which viewers got to see David Tennant's Detective Inspector sit through a gently awkward Tinder date.

His dinner partner, the lovely Zoe, seemed a little surprised to discover that a) Hardy's profile had been written by his daughter and b) that Hardy had a daughter, but took things in her stride.

Now, anyone who wondered how the date ended can see for themselves.

To console us for the fact for the fact that Broadchurch has disappeared from our screens – reportedly for the very last time, as writer Chris Chibnall is taking over Doctor Who from 2018 – ITV has decided to release a deleted scene, showing how things went for Hardy and Zoe after he walked her home.

Could love be on the horizon for the irascible detective now his case is finally closed? We'll probably never find out...but we can all keep out fingers crossed for him.
