The 39-year-old – who presented Dancing on Ice with Phillip Schofield – is due to give birth to her first child with husband Frank any day.

But ITV bosses, and Phil hope Christine will cut short maternity leave to join him on This Morning while Holly goes Down Under for around six weeks from November.

It is expected that, if she agrees, Christine will share the role with another presenter to partner Phil.

One insider said: “Christine is the natural first choice because she and Phil work so well together both on and off screen.

“Everyone has their fingers crossed because she’s such a lovely person to work with – and the viewers love her too.”

She will co-present from the jungle alongside new dad Declan Donnelly, whose daughter Isla arrived this month.

Schofield, 56, told last year how he and wife Steph, Holly and husband Dan Baldwin and Christine and football star Frank often socialise.

In recent years the pregnant star has been a regular panellist on ITV’s Loose Women and also guest presenter of morning show Lorraine.

She married Lampard in 2015, becoming stepmother to his two daughters Luna,12, and 11-year-old Isla in the process.

She has not found out the gender of her baby but suspects that she’s carrying a girl.
