Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas tested for coronavirus after developing symptoms

Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas has revealed she has taken a coronavirus test after developing symptoms of the deadly virus.

The 59 year old TV star admitted she hasn’t been feeling well and is awaiting on the results of her covid-19 test while speaking in the virtual winners room at the BAFTA TV Awards on Friday 30 July.

She said: “I broke my foot, so that is healing, I've not been so well with a cough. I had a temperature and a this and a that.

“So I just took the covid test today so I have to wait for 24 hours.

“Then my boyfriend will come back some time next week.”

Shirley also shared her excitement at Strictly Come Dancing winning a BAFTA at Friday’s virtual ceremony.

She went on: “I wasn't there when they won a Bafta before so for me this is extremely exciting.

“Everyone puts so much into the show. Lighting, hair and makeup, everyone puts so much in to make the show come to life.”

The judge, who was recently rushed to hospital for breaking an ankle, is looking forward to the return of the BBC dancing show later this year.

When asked by Mirror Online if she was confident Strictly Come Dancing will go ahead, she said: “Let me tell you, you cannot miss it, some of the things they have got lined up are a bit 'ohhhh or ahhhh' it is one of those shows.

“They have done everything in their power to bring light and happiness for the autumn and winter, you will not be disappointed.”

Shirley also responded to reports that Bruno Tonioli may not be able to appear as a judge, was he usually flies between the UK and US to fulfil his judging commitments on Strictly and Dancing With The Stars across the Atlantic.

Shirley said: “All I can say is I have known Bruno 11 years and if there is a way for him to fly backwards and forwards he will find it, if he has to walk on water he will. I know he will give his all to get there.”

She also hinted she thought they could get a member of the royal family on the show as a contestant.

She said: “It would be lovely for one of the younger royals to come on, we have even seen the Queen on Zoom so it would be lovely get a young royal and I know lots of them are fans and it brings joy to their evenings.”
