Strictly Come Dancing's Seann Walsh and Katya Jones both fought back tears in their first public interview as they faced questions over their infamous kiss.

The BBC competition's spin-off broke from its strategy of ignoring the growing scandal on Wednesday (October 10) by opening the show with presenter Zoe Ball interviewing married pro Katya and Seann. "Obviously, I'm sorry for the hurt that I've caused," Seann told Zoe on BBC Two's It Takes Two.

Katya reiterated her own statement from Twitter that the kiss was no reflection on her marriage with fellow Strictly Come Dancing professional Neil Jones.

"The main thing for me is me and Neil are absolutely fine, and that's what matters to me the most right now," she said. "And focusing on my job, and doing it as professionally as I can."

Zoe also addressed Seann being very publicly dumped by his girlfriend Rebecca Humphries, who accused him of "reacting aggressively" when she called out his "inappropriate, hurtful behaviour".

"First of all, I'd rather not be having to address this publicly but I feel like I have to," Seann admitted. "I made a mistake, which I'm very sorry for. I'm sorry for the hurt I caused. You never think about the extent of the damage you're going to do in a moment of a mistake you've made."

Addressing Rebecca's accusations of his "aggressive" behaviour, Seann insisted: "I'm not perfect, far from it. Our relationship wasn't perfect. That doesn't meant that I wanted it to end the way that it finally did. I'm very sorry for that.

"I feel it's also important for me to say that the people who know me the most, that love me, they know that I am not the person I'm being portrayed as. I'm still sorry for what I did, but it's very important for me to get that out there."

The pair confirmed once again to Zoe that they will be continuing in the competition this weekend despite calls for them to stand down.

"The Charleston, we're working really hard [on]," Katya said. "We're still looking forward to Saturday and doing the Charleston as best as we can."

Earlier on Wednesday, Strictly head judge Shirley Ballas promised she wouldn't let the media frenzy over the kiss influence her verdict on Seann and Katy's performance this Saturday night.

"I shall go out on Saturday with everybody enjoying the show and be ready to see the dancing, judging without fear or favour," she told This Morning.

Strictly Come Dancing will return this Saturday (October 13) on BBC One, while It Takes Two airs Mondays through Fridays on BBC Two.
