Did you know there's a SUPER quick way to make a hard avocado ripe?

Look, I know it's a first world problem, but when you're in the moment, it really feels like there's nothing worse than cracking open an avocado to find it's not the ripe, mushy goodness you were after. It's as hard as the day is long, and there's no way you're going to get guacamole out of that thing unless you use a hammer.

Or have a penchant for crunchy guac.

Hard avocados often fool us, passing initial supermarket tests by appearing to feel relatively squidgy from the outside. But as soon as you get them open, you may as well be trying to smash a series of pebbles on your toast with a fork.

But the long and the short of it is, there's a way around this hardship. And it doesn't take three days in a fruit bowl to make it happen. HOW CAN THIS BE SO? I hear you ask. We have PureWowto thank for this one.

They've worked out that by wrapping the whole avocado in tin foil and baking it in the oven for 10 minutes, it'll soften the rigid devil and provide you with just the soft snack you were after.

First, put the two halves of the avocado back together, making it whole again (shout out to Atomic Kitten), before wrapping it in the foil, and be careful not to bake it at too high a temperature. The wizards at PureWow suggest 95°C as an ideal heat.

Once it's been in for 10 minutes, pop the avocado in the fridge for a short while to cool down, and you'll be mashing and smashing like you'd never have dreamed possible just 15 minutes ago.

One of life's many miracles, I'm sure you'll agree.
