The supermarket giant has revealed that more and more shoppers are choosing prepared mixes, with sales doubling in the last two years to over 850,000.

The ready-made mix option offers a fast and cheap alternative to getting everything individually and making your pancakes from scratch - a draw for those who are either hopeless in the kitchen or pressed for time.

Tesco's own brand ready made pancake mix will only set you back a £1 and all you need to do is add water and whatever toppings take your fancy. Or if you're in the mood for some indulgence you can always give the Maple Grove Farm's Buttermilk And Honey Pancake And Waffle Mix (£5.25) a go.

As far as toppings go Pancake Day sales at Tesco last year reveal that lemon juice was still the favourite, followed by chocolate spread Nutella, Maple syrup, strawberry syrup and honey.

Tesco homebaking buying manager Lauren Milne said: “Pancake making can be a time-consuming process and a growing number of savvy, time-restricted customers now realise that it is far easier to get a ready-made mix in a shaker and just add water."

If you're planning to pick up ingredients for your Pancake Day feast you can also get £5 off your shop from any supermarket including Tesco, thanks to a deal from cashback site Quidco .

All you have to do is visit your local supermarket and spend £5 or more on any pancake ingredients, (including flour, eggs, milk, sugar, lemon juice, Nutella or ready made mix), from ALDI, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Lidl, Asda or Morrisons.

Sign up to Quidco if you're not already a member (it's totally free), and then submit your receipt online to claim back your £5 to cover the cost of your shop. You can see full instructions on how to claim by visiting: www.quidco.com.
