Meat lovers eager to test out the new Tomahawk in Saltburn can dig into the chain's famous steaks from Friday. With the grand opening only a day away we headed to the site to check out the new restaurant.

The former Vista Mar has undergone an extensive revamp with new interiors as well as outside tables on a stunning wraparound balcony that takes in views out over the beach and pier to the sea and cliffs. Billed as a "Tomahawk with a twist", the new Saltburn eatery is making the final preparations for its opening.

The chain attracted attention this week, when Tomahawk's signature cow model was added to the restaurant's roof and caused a fiery debate on social media about whether the cow was "tacky" or "brilliant", which co-founder Howard Eggleston dubbed "cow-gate." He explained that "there was no harm or offence meant to anyone" when the cow was placed in a temporary location while refurbishment works continued.

Howard explained: "We put those cows around a lot of our venues, it's a signature thing. We were going to put them in the garden, and the garden is getting rebuilt and done at the minute, so the builders literally, as a bit of fun, stuck it on the roof just to keep it out of the way."

Despite the controversy, many Teessiders are excited for the new steak house to open its doors. It will serve breakfast, lunch, an evening menu, Sunday lunch and desserts as well as vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options, a children's menu and drinks and cocktails. To celebrate the launch, Tomahawk Saltburn is also giving away a £50 voucher to spend at Tomahawk Saltburn through its social media sites - the winner will be revealed on Friday, June 24.

Opening times are weekdays 9am to 1am with breakfast served until 11.30am. Lunch menus are served Monday to Saturday noon to 4.30pm and evening menus start from 4.30pm. On weekends, the restaurant opens for breakfast at 8am and closes at 1am. Sunday lunch is served from noon until 7pm.
