The Fordwich Arms is no stranger to accolades so it comes as no surprise that they have just been named among the top 100 in Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards. In 2018 the team picked up a Michelin Star, and it seems things just keep going from strength to strength.

Located in 'Britain's smallest town' just outside of Canterbury, the pub and restaurant is the picture perfect destination all year round. With a 1930's bar and oak panelled dining room complete with three open fires to keep you cosy in the winter, there is also a beautiful dining terrace and garden with views over the river Stour, where you can enjoy the sunshine on a summers afternoon.

Chef-patron Daniel Smith has worked in some of the country's top restaurants and was recently awarded Observer's Young Chef of the Year, and his seasonal menu showcases the best of local Kentish ingredients, all sourced locally.

The there is a choice of A la Carte and Tasting menus, with vegetarian options for both. Sample menus are on the website and you can expect to find dishes such as South Coast turbot, 35 day dry aged Hereford beef and Salt baked turnip. There is an extensive wine and cocktail list, reading through the menus online is enough to make you want to book a table immediately.

Tables can be booked online via the website or over the phone. They even recommend a local taxi company if you don't fancy driving.

The restaurant have been featured in some of the UK's top publications such as The Guardian and The Telegraph with Mail on Sunday food critic Tom Parker-Bowels saying "The Fordwich Arms may have gone posh, but it's worth it for the delicious new menu".

One of our very own reporters Henry Collier was lucky enough to try it for himself last year and said: "We’re often told that the best restaurants are in the city, but this was as good as you can get."

The Estrella Damm National Restarant Awards was launched in 2007 to celebrate the UK's eating out scene and reward the very best chefs, front of house staff and restaurants the country has to offer.
