New research by appliance repair specialists has discovered a large selection of strange things found in a washing machine's depths and hidden within the filters - and the results are shocking!

We know what you're probably thinking: 'How does bacon end up in a washing machine? And given the size of the latter two, how on earth did a hanger and bowl make it into a machine without being noticed?'

56 per cent said they often experience this devastating disappointment upon finding the tissue remains.

Second on the list is money, which more often than not is a sign of happiness and joy, assuming it's still in good condition, of course.

Rather unpleasantly, 3 per cent of Brits said they'd found baby nappies and sanitary towels.

Other small items include drill parts, lighters, a spoon, pens and pencils, lego pieces and nail clippers.

We guess the moral of the story is to always check and double check your clothes before putting anything in the washing machine!
