Horse racing has been held at the famous Berkshire course since 1711 and tradition is a hallmark of the meeting. Top hats and tails remain compulsory in parts of the course while a daily procession of horse-drawn carriages brings the Queen to the course. With a history dating back to the 18th century, Royal Ascot is held from June 18-22, 2019 at Ascot racecourse in Berkshire, England. A major event in the British social and sporting calendar, Royal Ascot is attended by Queen Elizabeth II, the Prince of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and the Earl and Countess of Wessex among other members of the royal family and general public. With over 300,000 attendees over the course of the week, it's one of the busiest equine racing events in Europe. We look at the event in pictures.
