On a Golden Globes red carpet flooded with all the glitz and glamour you'd expect from Hollywood, one actress stood out.

Lola Kirke made a bold statement by pairing her floral gown with an unusual accessory - unshaven armpits.

The 27-year-old confidently posed for the cameras with her natural body hair on display .

The Mozart in the Jungle actress previously spoke about her armpit style, saying she was key to her character in the Amazon show keeping her "hippy look".

"When they cast me in the role, the part was this kind of hippie housewife," Kirke told Village Voice. "I was like, 'Oh, that's fine, she probably wouldn't shave her armpits, either.'

"But then they rewrote the part. And they had my character in a sleeveless dress, unloading groceries. So when I got to the set I said to the director, 'Hey, I don't shave my armpits. Do you think that the character would? If you do, I totally understand, but I can also think of reasons why she wouldn't.' He was like, 'Let me see your armpits.' "

But Lola certainly isn't the first woman to ditch the razor, and those eye-watering trips to the waxer (put like that, why would she be?)

Although they make a living out of looking glam, these celebrities got bored of the fuzz battle long ago, and have already bared their hair loud and proud.

I suddenly have an urge to award medals...

Poor old Millie got trolled when she dared to display unshaven upper legs in what was supposed to be a sexy sunbathing selfie.

Although we can't help but laugh at the unwanted backlash to a unashamedly smug shot, the question has to be asked - really, thighs too now? There isn't time in the day, surely?

Pretty Woman no less went razor free in this infamous shot, proving you can still be one of the most beautiful women in the world and a tad hairy.

The shot sent shockwaves, with many arguing Julia's pits were the pits. But it doesn't seem to have tarnished her reputation in the sexy stakes. Phew.

Never one to miss out on a splash of controversy, Madonna has also joined the hairy armpit brigade, and flashes them here unashamedly.

But like so many celebs the hairy look didn't stick around for long. The tuffs were soon Magonna.

The actress truly braved it when she stepped out to a red carpet event with full-on unshaven legs.

Where others may have reached for the trousers, or the black tights, she put her best foot forward and refused to leg it when the flashbulbs went wild.

Give the woman a medal.

Jessica Alba

She usually doesn't put one perfectly pretty step wrong, so this shot of Jessica was a little hair-raising. We're not sure she planned it.

Thank goodness though for a timely reminder that even the most glamorous women in the world can't always find the time to stay on top of their bikini line. It is, in short, a faff, and sometimes something has to give. Go Jessica.

If Queen Bee can do it, then we all can.

Even Beyonce has foregone underarm maintenance before a big event. If you were a boy, Beyonce, you could do that every day. A new lyric for you.

Tyra Banks

When a supermodel lets her moustache go unwaxed and unbleached the world truly sits up.

From this photograph we learn that yes, women do get facial hair. And no, we don't love it. But yes, maybe everyone should just get used to it. Thanks Tyra.

More pits, but you have to love this photograph. Never has armpit hair been made to look more alluring.

Dazzling smile, check. Perfectly angled pose, check. Armpit hair, check.
