arvidabystrom/Instagram arvidabystrom/Instagram A model who appeared in a campaign for Adidas claims she has received rape threats because she doesn't shave her legs.

Arvida Bystrom is a 26-year-old model, photographer and musician from Sweden.

She appeared in some promotional shots for the sportswear brand's latest Superstars campaign, but quickly found that she was receiving a negative backlash for her body hair - something no woman should have to suffer.

Does David Beckham get inundated with hate mail for his hairy legs when he models for Armani?

Arvida posted a snap from the campaign on Instagram, explaining: "My photo from the @adidasoriginals superstar campaign got a lot of nasty comments last week.

"Me being such an abled, white, cis body with its only nonconforming feature being a lil leg hair. Literally I've been getting rape threats in my DM inbox.

"I can't even begin to imagine what it's like to not posses all these privileges and try to exist in the world.

"Sending love and try to remember that not everybody has the same experiences being a person

Also thanks for all the love, got a lot of that too."

When she posted another picture on Instagram - a selfie taken in a shop dressing room mirror in which you couldn't even see whether her legs were hairy or not - the issue was still the focus of people's attention.

One person wrote: "You shave ??" with crying laughing faces, before commenting again to say: "Finally you shaved your legs"

Another Instagram user wrote: "Y u shave (sic)" followed by "wt about armpits?"

She replied to the two men to say: "Nope still hairy".

More and more women are starting to ditch their razors and favour a more natural look.

Fitness blogger Morgan Mikenas, who has more than 7,000 followers on Instagram, recently revealed how she stopped shaving at the beginning of 2016.

The young woman had been the target of bullies thanks to her hairy legs when she was at school, and recalls running home to ask her mum how to shave.

"There is nothing more rare, nor more beautiful, than a woman being unapologetically herself; comfortable in her perfect imperfection. To me, that is the true essence of beauty."~Steve Maraboli 🌸✨ Not just woman, but everyone! Imagine if everyone just decided that today was the day they loved themselves and embraced every part of them selves. Accepting and loving your body and your "flaws" because you know they are what makes you who you are. If you are focused on being true to yourself in every moment, you are less concerned what others think, which will lead to peace of mind. When you have nothing to hide and you can freely be yourself, there is a profound peace/confidence you will emanate to the world that will inspire others. ✨💝🤘🏼I also just posted a new YouTube video on why I don't shave my body hair and how it helped me(link in bio)☺ #bodypositive #spreadlove #behappy #namaste #hairywomen #healing #healthylifestyle #selfcare #loveyourself #beyourself #bethechange #divine #inspireothers #inspirationalquotes #positivity #goodvibesonly #lifeisbeautiful #hairy #gratitude #weareone #higherconsciousness #freespirit #empowerment #smile #feelgood

But now, empowered, she's decided to go au naturale. Morgan said: "I guess my number one reason why I stopped was that it just took so much time.

"It took so much of my time to get in the shower and have to shave everything and then wash my hair and then wash my body it's just like another thing."

Good for all of these women who are doing what they want with their own bodies.
