Supermodel moments: the names and faces that defined an era

Slide 1 of 20

We revisit the glory years of the original supermodels

Before Cara, Jourdan, Karlie and Joan were even a twinkle in their parents' eyes, there was Cindy, Linda, Naomi and Christy. The year was 1990, and these original beauties were about to take the fashion world - and the wider world - by storm, and kickstart a supermodel phenomenon that would not be seen again. They took private jets, dated A-list actors, commanded huge fees - and did it all with the most dazzling of smiles.

Excitingly, this week sees founder of Premier Model Management and all-round super-agent Carole White release her memoir, Have I Said Too Much? My Life In And Out Of the Model Agency. With thirty years in the business and having had many a famous model on her books, it promises to be tell-all tome giving a unique insight into the glamour, the excess and sometimes the sheer madness of the supermodel glory years.

In anticipation of the book being released on 12 February, we've looked back through the archives to discover what made the Nineties supermodels quite so super.
