A love of tea seems to be incorporated in our genes, we are famed for our British reserve and manners, and are self-confessed experts at queueing.

Now, researchers have compiled a definitive list of things that make you a true Brit, after surveying the nation.

According to the research, dunking biscuits in tea is the most British thing you can do. See how many quirks you can tick off that make you a quintessential Brit...

2. Avoiding sitting next to someone on public transport at all costs

3. Incessant queuing

4. Apologising for everything 

5. Eating chips with weird toppings, such as curry sauce, or gravy with cheese

6. Never-ending politeness

7. Eating fry ups for breakfast

8. Awkwardly stepping side to side trying to walk past someone

9. Pretending to like people we don't

10. Having meals based on days of the week - e.g. Sunday roast, Friday fish and chips

The survey also found that ketchup is officially the nation's favourite sauce to put on chips, far more popular than brown sauce.

'There are a lot of British stereotypes flying around out there, and our research shows that, actually, not all of them are that accurate,' a spokesperson for GalaBingo.com, who compiled the data, told Mail Online.

'Some ring true; queuing, politeness, and odd street names, but it's these oddities that make Britain so unique and we definitely wouldn't change them!'
