Quick show of hands. Who here would be utterly and completely delighted to own a fashion item that had once been nestled in the crook of Meghan Markle's arm?

Without being able to count you, we reckon it's a pretty high number of raised limbs.

The Duchess of Cambridge has been impressing the nation with her style credentials ever since she was still a resident on our television sets.

And now that she's a bonafide member of the royal family, her effect on the fashion industry and people's shopping habits has only intensified. Don't believe us? We've done a whole investigation!

However, according to an anecdote relayed by the pregnant Duchess as she was looking at the bag rack today at charity Smart Works, not everyone has taken full advantage of her style recommendations.

The Duchess of Sussex explained, 'The last time I was here I suggested a purse and it was one that I had donated and she didn’t like it I was like, "oh, ok!"'

She continued, 'I thought it was great.’

Can you imagine being the woman who accidentally gave up the chance to take home a bag that was once owned by Markle herself?

A 'whoopsie' moment if ever we've heard of one.

Of course, philanthropist and women's champion Markle completely understands the point that women need to be able to express their own sense of style and dress according to their tastes, preferences and what makes them feel comfortable.

She was far from offended by the woman's decision to opt for a different bag.

In fact, she went on to explain further how important it is to make women feel supported in their careers and their choices.

'It's not just donating your clothes and seeing where they land, it's really being part of each other's success stories as women, right?' Meghan told the group, as seen in a video shared by royal correspondent Emily Andrews. 'It's not just hand me downs, it's saying this is the blazer I wore that helped me win that interview and I want that to be the piece that helps this woman have that part of her story'.

She gets it.

This was Meghan Markle's first outing of 2019, and her visit to Smart Works came just after an announcement that the Duchess is now a patron of the charity.

Wearing a fitted dress by maternity brand Hatch, a swing trench coat from Oscar de la Renta, cow print Gianvito Rossi 'Plexi' pumps from her own pre-Prince Harry shoe collection, earrings from ethical jewellery brand, Kimai and a smart black tote bag from Victoria Beckham the 37-year-old looked seriously chic.
