But, if we're honest, we've never stopped to think what flight attendants think of our behaviour as we shuffle sleepily to our seats on those early morning flights.

Until now, that is because a member of cabin crew has just shared a list of the major 'don'ts' that flight attendants wish passengers would stop doing on planes, and now we've been left questioning whether our in-flight etiquette has always been exemplary...

In response to a question on Q&A site Quora about the things that 'annoy' cabin crew, Susan Brown – who says she has experience working for Emirates, Qatar Airways and Etihad in her profile – replied with a detailed list.

And, while some of the no-nos are just plain disgusting – breaking wind and people not cleaning up properly after themselves in the toilet – you might potentially have been guilty of a few of them...

That includes not putting your seat up at meal times, which Susan says is pretty common. 'I lost count of how many times I had to tell passengers to put their seat up when being served the meals,' she wrote.

'It is such a rude behaviour to do this when it is meal time. Imagine the person sitting behind you and trying to eat their meal having the tray table literally on their tummy.'

Other big faux pas that irritate the cabin crew include asking for too many drinks, having bad breath when you speak to them after an overnight flight ('At least chew some gum or take some breath mints.'), kissing your partner too passionately if you're sitting next to each other, not making eye contact or ignoring them when they say goodbye to you as you get off the plane, and accidentally hitting the call button...

'Yes, this happens all the time,' Susan explained. 'When we arrive and they say, "Oh I am sorry I pressed it by mistake". How is it a mistake when you pressed it three times already?'

And, if we take one thing away from her list, it's that we're definitely never, ever going to take our socks off on a plane...

'Do they know how dirty/disgusting the aircraft floors are?' wrote Susan about passengers going barefoot. 'Obviously not.'

Duly noted.
