So it's easy to understand why a wedding guest would want to save pennies where possible – but one woman's top tip for keeping costs down has still managed to spark a massive debate...

Writing on Mumsnet's "Am I Being Unreasonable?" thread, one user suggested that she was thinking about smuggling alcohol into a wedding reception to save money on drinks – and her comment quickly divided the online parenting forum, as The Sun reports.

'Smuggling alcohol into a wedding reception? Would you? Have you?! Did you get caught?!' the anonymous user wrote.

Many were quick to criticise her suggestion, with one person calling it 'disgraceful behaviour', while another shocked user wrote, 'Why would you?'

However, plenty of others seemed to think the trick was pretty clever – and even confessed to trying it out themselves in the past...

'Once you've spent hundreds on the hen party, the hotel, the gift etc, £8 [for] a glass of wine is the last thing you feel like paying!' argued one.

Another was proud to say she'd done it before: 'Felt no shame, drink prices were extortionate and at the time I was skint so it made sense to keep the cost down but still go to a dear friend's wedding,' she wrote.
